Medium Acceptance Device (MAD) spectrometer for 12 GeV JLab upgrade

CSULA nuclear physics group will be doing the radiation shielding calculations for the MAD spectrometer detector hut.

The distance is the only thing that changes with angle. The target to spectrometer distance (first magnet field region) is 8.34 meters at 12 degrees. The field region to the magnet entrance is .75 meters, so at 35 deg. the distance to the entrance is 1.53 meters and at 12 deg. it's 7.59 meters.

The target chamber is not shown but the dimension, 2.28m, is to the target center with the spectrometer at 35 degrees and at the distance from target given to the magnetic field boundary. (bitmap image)

The octagon is the iron. We don't have the coil winding details yet, but they will likely be Niobium/Titanium in a copper matrix stabilized in an aluminum structure. The annular cylinder is the vacuum can for the cryostat. It is made from stainless steel, as is the cryostat and the liquid nitrogen heat shield (both are inside the vacuum can). The
equivalent thickness for these is 12.6 cm Stainless Steel. For the coil,  use a 20 cm thickness of aluminum for now. It too is inside the vacuum can.
